Opinions are like assholes
yours is bad and weird and everyone's talking about it.
The number one thing you have to do when receiving new information is say to yourself everyone on the internet, “hey, this sucks!” You are then allowed to process that information for as long as you need; this could range from a few days to even a few years, depending on the severity of your knee-jerk, and very public outrage. Upon processing said information, you are very much allowed to change your mind - hey, we all do - and join the hoards of people who came before you (those who prefer to see the good, the possible, the hope) and have approved of the information all along. This is to say, when you, WNBA Portland Fire hater, come around on the team name/branding/colors, there will be a happy community waiting for you. And trust me, you will come around.
“How could you be so confident, sentient basketball newsletter?” Well, because at this moment in time, maybe nothing has mattered less than the name of a WNBA team. You will likely realize, in time, that being supportive of your local WNBA team is a much more worthwhile way to spend your precious energy. That maybe, the word “fire” alludes to much more than natural disasters, and that pink and red DO go together.
We could be wrong, of course. You could be one of those exceptionally insufferable people whose controversial opinions are your sole personality trait. If that’s you, we wish you (get) well, but maybe you should just be an NBA fan.
Imagine Being Magically Whisked Away To… Toronto
Alex (Flagrant Magazine co-founder and writer of this newsletter of late) is in Toronto. Alex is also me so I’m going to switch POVs here. I am in Toronto and I went to the NBA Courtside Restaurant and had an Aperol Assist while I live podded with the Pickup squad. It was lit as hell. The NBA Courtside restaurant is definitely a little underwhelming but probably only because it was 7pm on a Tuesday…
I pray to god I can make time to visit Home Game: Toronto Loves Basketball exhibit at the Museum of Toronto that friend of the mag/pod/lett,
, helped curate. ALSO hoping to snag some Toronto Tempo merch if it’s around somewhere…go Fire but I need some Tempo shit.I haven’t seen Drake but I haven’t visited every Aritzia yet, so there’s still time.

Nah, we didn’t need to post the rest. <3
Anonymous Player Survey
The Athletic released the first part of their anonymous WNBA player survey, where players (so far) weighed in on the REAL MVP, and the biggest trash talker. We’re a little surprised that Skylar Diggins is scoring so low there, tbh…
We’re excited for Thursday’s answers to be released:
What's the best-run franchise?
What's the worst-run franchise?
Gulp… >:-)
Men Will Literally Come Out Of Retirement From The NFL Instead Of Going To Therapy
Yeah, Kelsey Plum’s ex-husband, Darren Waller, has come out of retirement to sign with the Miami Dolphins. Don’t let that distract you from what he’s trying to distract you from, though…
New Episode of Pickup: My WNBA’s On Fire, How ‘Bout Yours?
It’s a special LIVE ep of Flagrant Pod! Ciara, Ashtyn, and sometimes Alex chat allllll about the Portland Fire. We rank the rollout, get live coverage from the launch party, compare and contrast recent branding efforts, and a whole lot more.
Leave us a review and we just might read it on the pod…
